The solutions to the lack of affordable housing and sufficient childcare fall partly on the State and partly on local communities. I supported the bipartisan workforce housing bill which passed in 2021, and it would have been a big help, but it was vetoed by the Governor. The legislature must also give local governments a free hand to enact creative solutions that work best for each community. I opposed the legislature’s removal of authority from local governments to create affordable housing programs. I introduced several bills to address homelessness and co-sponsored other bills that addressed the affordable housing crisis.
